My 3 staples for a delicious superfood smoothie

I feel like we live in a day and age that is so focused on everything you CAN'T have. All of the hype around the latest health documentary proves my point. The main takeaway for a lot of people...everything you eat will cause cancer or diabetes! 
Of course this isn't true, but it can seem true. It's overwhelming, and we're all left wondering what the heck we can eat. 

Whenever I get asked this question I tell people to go back to the basics. Fruits and vegetables.

I know, it's kind of boring! And it seem way too simple. 

Well sometimes simple is the answer. If you load up our diets with fruits and vegetables...mostly vegetables, and lots of green ones, then you'll be loading your body up tons of great nutrients that it needs. 

How many vegetables do you eat in a day? Seriously, how many? For most of us it's not even close to what our bodies need.

Now we can make smoothies as simple or as complicated as we like. I recommend starting with the basics then adding from there once you get a hang of it.

Here are my 3 staples for a delicious superfood smoothie:

1. Frozen fruit

Let's face it, blended up fruits taste way better than choose a good one. I like to go with fruits that have lower sugar content like berries or green apples. Of course bananas tend to go hand in hand with smoothies as well. And I prefer using frozen ones to keep the smoothie cold and that way you can skip the ice cubes.

2. Vegetable

I love throwing in veggies to my smoothie. This is a great way to give a major nutrient boost. And most of the time the flavor is hidden by the fruit so you don't even know it's in there (a bonus for those of you who struggle to get veggies down!). Dark, leafy greens work great, spinach, kale, etc. You can throw in celery or cucumbers to give your smoothie a refreshing flavor. Be creative, and play around with it.

3. Quality alternative milk source

I say alternative milk source because while you can use cow's milk if you prefer, most people don't tolerate cow's milk well, and well it tends to cause inflammation and digestive issues for a lot of people. 

I prefer to use coconut milk, almond milk, or hemp milk. Of course each has it's pro's and con's but this will vary from person to person. Test them out and see what you like best.

Once you've got the basics down you can add in protein powder, superfood nutrient powder, chia seeds, flax seeds, tumeric powder, and the list is endless to make your smoothie a superfood boost in your day!
